Chrome vs. Firefox

CHROME VS FIREFOX! The epic showdown of (IMO) the two best browsers on the market.  Two years ago Firefox had a clear lead – if you weren’t using Internet Explorer, you were almost certainly using Firefox.  Then suddenly, Chrome entered the scene.  Originally it didn’t have extensions and had some other quirks, so most Firefox fans didn’t take too much notice.  Now, however, Chrome is steadily gaining market share, while Firefox is heading (slowly) in […]

College Laptop Recommendations

So I’m not in college…yet. But that doesn’t mean I can’t recommend college laptops! Granted, this is a loose recommendation, so I’ll start off with the basics and go from there. If money is no object… I’d seriously consider going with a MacBook Pro or similar high-end aluminum PC alternative. I’m not at all an Apple fanboy. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t recognize the quality of their products. MacBook Pros are physically amazing…they’re sleek, […]

WordPress Image Padding

So I just ran into a bit of an “issue” with WordPress and the way it handles images by default.  This is on a per-theme basis, but for whatever reason my theme didn’t already have image padding, so the text went right up to the side of the image.  There is a simple fix! First, click on Appearance (from the Dashboard), and then click on Editor.  Scroll to the bottom of that stylesheet and add: […]

New Site

Today I bought the domain www.freetechnologytips.com and set up WordPress on it.  From this point on, I will try to make sure every post has an image, and try to write more useful posts and try to write more “elegantly”.  I just looked back at some of my old posts and they’re pretty pointless (in fact I might delete some). The default WordPress editor is extremely limited and annoying…not to mention puts the text RIGHT […]

Update

Soon I’m going to be moving to a “real” website…that’s running on the WordPress platform. I’m planning on paying $50 or so a year for domain and web hosting and having some ads to hopefully subsidize it. A recent project I worked on was creating the site (and underlying architecture of) http://wtad.wyomingcityschools.org . On my own site I’m planning to have it work similarly…different pages containing different posts…however I want to have different pages display […]

Nexus One Review

The Nexus One.  Fast.  Sleek. Light.  Durable.  I purchased the Nexus one the day I could and received it two days later.  And yes, I paid $530 for it. Upon taking it out of the box, I was immediately amazed by how thin it is.  It’s so sleek and fits in the hand so nicely.  Every edge is gracefully curved and the screen is HUGE and gorgeous.  The light up trackball is also a nice […]

Decisions, Decisions – Nexus One

I’m torn.  $530 is a lot of money.  And yes, I realize that the $530 is a rumor, but I believe it’s accurate.  I just got my G1 working better…applied a RAM hack after re-flashing Cyanogen’s and going into spare parts and disabling lock home screen to memory – this was killing my phone (IMO).  It’s actually pretty usable (the past few weeks it’s been horribly slow).  So my dilemma is whether the Nexus One […]

Nexus One Invite

Which Googler do I have to bribe to get an invite to get the Nexus One right when it launches?  According to Engadget, only a few “invitees” will be selected at launch to have the phone…probably app developers.  I want one.  I realize that I can probably just wait a month or two for it to be available to the “general public”, but I’m a very impatient person, and I don’t feel like getting this […]

Google Phone / Nexus One

The Nexus One.  Beauty.  This is the Android phone many have been waiting for.  Pictured left, it is the true “Google Phone”, AKA “Nexus One”.  Granted, what I’m about to say is all based on rumors, but a lot of it is probably true.  I’m going to compare this a lot to the iPhone, but that’s because that’s the only true competition this phone has. I’ve been waiting for an Android phone with a big […]

Backup in Windows 7

Holy crap.  Has anyone tried to use the backup feature in Windows 7?  Are you having the same issues as me? I used to use Windows backup when I had Vista.  While running, it barely slowed down my system at all.  Now when I run the backup in Windows 7, my machine literally becomes nearly unusable.  I’ve cancelled it every time it’s started because it’s too painful to sit through.  I know you’re not supposed […]
